Private security industry is growing rapidly globally. It is estimated to worth about 235.37 billion USD in 2023. Contemporary society is faced with myriads of security threats. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), disclosed on Friday, 15 December 2023, that it arrested 59 suspected drug dealers in Sokoto, including the mastermind behind the killing of its operative. Mr. Muhammed Iro, the NDLEA State Commander, said the undisclosed suspect were arrested in January 2023 at Bagarawa Village in Bodinga Local Government Area. He said; “In the process, the suspect alerted villagers who assisted him to escape arrest, leading to an attack on our personnel, and the brutal killing of one of them.” Iro stated his sadness over lack of community support for the agency, and emphasised the need for the public to be aware of its responsibilities. “A drug dealer, who is destroying your children’s future, and instead of assisting us in effecting his arrest, you came out to attack us.” “However, after forcibly releasing him, you go ahead to kill one of our officers,” Iro said. He said the arrested suspect had been on the wanted list of both the Nigerian Police, and NDLEA. The Commander assured that the suspect would face the full force of the law and that investigations would be carried out to identify his accomplices. “We are committed to ensuring that the suspect faces the full force of the law, including those responsible for the brutal killing of our officer,” he said. The commander attributed the arrest of the 59 other suspects to the efforts of a joint operation, involving the Army, Civil Defence Corps, Police, and other Security Agencies in the State. “This operation aligns with Gov. Ahmed Aliyu’s commitment to reversing the security situation in the state. Iro said; “We have made significant strides, arresting 54 males and 5 females at various drug joints in the Sokoto metropolis.” The suspects will undergo investigation to identify the dealers for prosecution, users for counselling and those not involved in drug activities will be severely warned. He underscored the severity of the drug abuse menace and its connection with security challenges. Ogun: Police Arrest Three For Allegedly Snatching Car and Motorcycle

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three people suspected to have stolen a car and motorcycle in the Mowe and Ifo areas of the State. The source made this known on Thursday, December 14, 2023. The source mentioned that a suspect identified as Matthew Segun hit the head of a motorcyclist with a hammer on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, before fleeing with his motorcycle. It was gathered that Segun had earlier stopped the motorcycle and begged to take him from the Old Bank Bus Stop to Igbese in Ifo. The motorcyclist told Segun to disembark when they reached Igbese, but he (Segun) insisted that he should take him further down the route. However, Segun hit him with a hammer on the crown of his head after which the motorcyclist lost consciousness and fell off the bike. Segun thereafter absconded with the motorcycle. Upon consciousness, the motorcyclist and owner of the motorcycle approached the Ifo Police Division to report the incident. Confirming the incident on Thursday, December 14, 2023, the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said other commercial motorcycle riders in the area assisted the Police team in apprehending Segun. She said, “The suspect is a member of a syndicate responsible for snatching motorcycles from commercial motorcyclists in the area. The suspect will soon be transferred after the preliminary investigation is completed.” Meanwhile, two suspects believed to have stolen a car along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have also been arrested. The suspects were said to have been acting questioningly along the road and immediately took flight on sighting the Police approaching the area. The Police reassured that they had begun a manhunt to arrest the fleeing suspects after arresting two of the suspects. Narrating the incident, Odutola said the suspects had boarded the Corolla car in Lagos and that they sprayed some chemical substances on the face of the driver, which made him lose consciousness. She explained further that the suspects dragged the driver out of the car and immediately bolted the scene. “We have arrested two of the suspects. Our men are on the trail of the other suspects who participated in the robbery. The suspects will be transferred to Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.” Odutola stated.
