Self-Acceptance – Key to Building a Healthy and Positive Relationship

Self-Acceptance - Key to Building a Healthy and Positive Relationship

Self-Acceptance

Self-acceptance is the key to building a healthy and positive relationship with oneself.

Key Components of Self-Acceptance

  1. Self-Compassion: You must learn to treat yourself with kindness and understanding, especially in the face of challenges or mistakes. This involves offering the same compassion to yourself as you would offer to a friend.
  2. Self-Appraisal: You need to have a realistic and balanced view of yourself, and acknowledge your strengths and areas for growth without overly criticizing or inflating your abilities.
  3. Self-Approval: Self-acceptance is about relying on internal validation and approval rather than seeking constant validation from others. Understanding that external opinions do not solely determine your worth. Look inward and capture your real personhood.
  4. Self-Love: One thing you must always do is cultivate genuine love and care for yourself. This involves prioritizing self-care and making healthy choices that contribute to your overall well-being.

  1. Self-talk: Be watchful and sensitive about the self-conversation or inner conversation you carry in your mind. What do you tell yourself? Are they positive or negative words?

“I am a good and caring person.”

“I am capable of achieving success in my life.”

“I am intelligent.”

“I am not alone in this. I know there are people who love me and will be there for me when I need them.” etc

WHAT IS SELF-ACCEPTANCE?

Self-acceptance is the ability to embrace and fully accept oneself, including one’s strengths, weaknesses, quirks, and imperfections. It involves acknowledging and appreciating your individuality without judgment or the need for external validation.

1. Embrace What Makes You Unique

A good place to start is to think of the things that make you special. Ask yourself how these differences may benefit you in the future and how they add value to your life.

2. Let go of the Things you can’t Change

It’s important not to focus on the things you can’t change. You may find it helpful to write a letter to yourself about letting go of what you can’t change and welcoming the things you love about yourself. Self-acceptance is essential for your mental and emotional well-being. It’s important to learn to love yourself and the things that make you unique.

Self-acceptance is learning to love yourself, inside and out. It’s about letting go of the things you can’t change and appreciating what makes you unique.

3. Identify your Strengths

Write down the things you’re good at and/or love to do (e.g. sports, watching movies, music, art, etc.). Practicing these activities regularly can help you feel more confident in your abilities.

4. Set Goals

Set a few realistic goals for yourself and create a plan to meet them (this may also help with your self-esteem).

Don’t forget to reward yourself when you meet a goal!

5. Celebrate Your Accomplishments

Make a list of everything you’ve accomplished so far and add to it regularly. Post your list someplace where you can see it often. Be proud of yourself!

6. Plan ahead

If you can, try to avoid the people and/or things that challenge your self-acceptance.

8. Show Gratitude

There’s so much in our lives that we can be grateful for. Get two jars and label it Gratitude Jar and the other Happening Jar.

At the end of each day, write down what you are grateful for and what happened that overwhelmed you or got you angry. At the end of each year, you will be surprised at how much God has done for you/saved you from.

8. Be Kind to Yourself

Consider a few things you can do to treat yourself and spend quality time on your own (e.g. taking a warm bath, going for a walk in nature, going to the spa to be pampered, etc.).

It’s also important to take care of yourself by eating right, sleeping enough, and exercising regularly.

9. Think Positively

Remember to speak kindly to yourself and turn any self-critical, negative thoughts into positive thoughts.

Don’t be too hard on yourself or compare yourself to others. Positive thinking naturally draws positive energy to you. If you want to practice this, you can have your time frame. It’s a personal decision

10. Get Involved

Try a new extracurricular activity to learn more about yourself, what you enjoy, and what you’re good at.

You can NEVER get it wrong with volunteering, the feeling of satisfaction is usually awesome. I’m sure you don’t want to deprive yourself of this.

11. Find Support

You can always share your feelings with people you trust such as family and friends. (You could even try asking them to name two or three things they like about you.)

In conclusion, everyone’s journey to self-acceptance is different, but you can learn to be comfortable in your skin. NEVER compare yourself to anyone else

What is the opposite of self-acceptance?

  • self-rejection
  • self-abasement
  • self-contempt
  • self-denigration
  • self-disgust
  • self-hatred
  • self-loathing
  • mortification
  • humiliation

Don’t do any of this opposite to yourself !!!

This brings us to a discovery “BE A POLLYANNA”

Who is a POLLYANNA?

A Pollyanna refers to a person who is excessively optimistic or always sees the positive side of situations, sometimes to the point of being overly idealistic or naive. A Pollyanna is someone who always maintain a cheerful outlook despite facing challenges.

The term originated from the title character in the novel “Pollyanna” by Eleanor H. P.

I strongly believe that a Pollyanna kind of attitude and personality can help us greatly overcome lots of negative ills and challenges facing us.

It’s a healthy attitude that combats negative thoughts and ills.

You can start by:

  • Gratitude: Focus on what you’re thankful for. Regularly expressing gratitude can shift your perspective.
  • Solution-Oriented Thinking: Instead of dwelling on problems, focus on finding solutions. This proactive approach can enhance optimism.
  • Surround Yourself Positively: Spend time with optimistic and supportive people. Their outlook can influence yours.
  • Learn from Challenges: View challenges as opportunities for growth. Each difficulty can teach valuable lessons.
  • Remember, it’s okay to acknowledge difficulties, but the goal is to approach them with a positive and constructive mindset.
  • Humor: Find humor in situations when appropriate. Laughter can be a powerful tool for shifting perspectives.

Hindrance to Becoming a Pollyanna

Certain factors can hinder one from adopting a Pollyanna-like attitude:

  • Realism vs. Optimism Balance: While optimism is beneficial, it’s crucial to maintain a realistic perspective. Overly idealistic views may lead to overlooking important challenges.
  • Ignoring Negative Emotions: Being overly positive shouldn’t mean suppressing or ignoring genuine negative emotions. It’s essential to acknowledge and address them.
  • Unrealistic Expectations: Setting unrealistically high expectations may lead to disappointment. It’s important to balance optimism with a practical understanding of what’s achievable.
  • External Factors: External circumstances, such as persistent challenges or negative environments, can make it challenging to maintain a Pollyanna-like outlook.
  • Ignoring Critical Feedback: Blindly dismissing constructive criticism can hinder personal growth. A Pollyanna attitude should include a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Social Pressure: Feeling pressured to conform to a constantly positive image can be stressful. Authenticity is important, even if it involves acknowledging difficulties.

Remember, adopting a positive mindset doesn’t mean ignoring reality or suppressing genuine emotions. Balance and authenticity are key.

Benefits of Being a Pollyanna

Embracing a Pollyanna-like attitude can offer several benefits:

  • Improved Mental Health: Focusing on the positive can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, contributing to better mental well-being.
  • Enhanced Resilience: Optimistic individuals often bounce back more quickly from setbacks and are better equipped to handle challenges.
  • Increased Motivation: A positive outlook can provide motivation and enthusiasm, making it easier to pursue goals and overcome obstacles.
  • Better Physical Health: Optimistic individuals may experience health benefits, as a positive mindset is associated with lower levels of stress hormones and improved immune function.
  • Longevity: Some studies suggest that optimistic individuals may live longer, possibly due to the positive impact on health behaviors and stress management.
  • Creativity and Problem-Solving: A positive mindset can enhance creativity and improve problem-solving skills, as it encourages a more open and flexible approach to challenges.
  • Emotional Intelligence: Optimistic individuals often exhibit higher emotional intelligence, allowing them to navigate social situations with empathy and understanding.

In conclusion, it is worthwhile to know and note that a Pollyanna is an optimist and realist as well.

You will realize how much they will be ready to help out. 7. Believe in Yourself Despite some circumstances, life may throw at you, always believe that you are special and able to scale through. Believe that nobody can decide for you, and the power to make yourself a priority lies within you. Accept the best of you because you deserve to be happy and take control of what is happening around you. 8. Engage With Positive People. Surrounding with people of a positive mind has a better chance of helping you to have priority in life. Positive people who motivate and encourage you to put yourself first in everything you do are vital for your life. Look out for friends who are in that category that can inspire and lift you to grow.  Remove anybody who wants to bring negativity and bad energy into your life, which is best for your well-being. Ribadu: Mbah has Put an End to Insecurity

Ribadu: Mbah has Put an End to Insecurity

Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Advisor (NSA), has praised the Governor Peter Mbah administration’s efforts to put an end insecurity in Enugu State, claiming that the administration has brought the state’s level of insecurity to a complete halt. Governor Peter Mbah praised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its accomplishments in combating corruption. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to a relentless fight against corruption and insecurity, stating that it is essential to the endeavor of elevating Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion and eradicating poverty. As the Special Guest of Honor at the EFCC Enugu Zonal Command Complex official commissioning on Tuesday, 19 December 2023, Ribadu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to fighting corruption and insecurity nationwide, stating that the administration of President Bola Tinubu had no place for dishonest law enforcement and EFCC officials. “We want to thank you so much for the good work you are doing, not just for Enugu State but for our country,” he remarked, addressing the Governor, Your Excellency, the landscape is evolving. Things are getting better around here and we are getting better. Of the very few who have demonstrated that it is feasible, you are one of the very few.  In Enugu State and therefore throughout the South East, security is returning to normal. And you are leading the charge in it. We acknowledge this and appreciate the excellent work you are doing. Things are becoming better for the economy. It is evident. Insecurity is what you’re addressing. We are certain that with leaders such as yourself, the common issues, and human obstacles we have faced in the past will be history. We wish you and everyone else who is working hard to bring order back to Nigeria, our encouragement.  “The Governor came out boldly and bravely when we interacted with him here in June. He promised to try his hardest to bring the peace back. Because we get daily reports of activity, our records and data show that there are many instances, days, weeks, and even months where we have not documented a single act of violence, incidence of terrorism, or even kidnapping.  In Enugu State, and therefore throughout the South East, they are drastically declining. Everything has evolved. “Unfortunately, attacks on police stations and law enforcement personnel occurred before the election of this administration.” “Individuals who are not even in Nigeria will sit in their comfortable homes in other countries and give commands to others telling them not to go to work or seek out their means of subsistence.” others used to obey these kinds of directives. But that’s over; it’s not happening anymore. We appreciate the Federal Government’s involvement and the leaders who have risen in the South East. “We are grateful to the Governor of Enugu State. He performed a fantastic job. Additionally, urged this state’s citizens to back him. He’s performing admirably. We are pleased with the current state of affairs in Enugu State and, by extension, the South East. In the course of bolstering security, he restated the Tinubu administration’s pledge to provide every Nigerian with a feeling of equality, justice, and fairness in all aspects of life. Governor Mbah also spoke, praising security for the excellent work they had done so far in the state and stating that his administration had helped the EFCC rebuild a suitable Zonal Office in Enugu to bolster the fight against corruption and insecurity. To guarantee that Enugu State and Nigeria as a whole may finally put the memories of insecurity in the past, we today enjoin the security services and EFCC to continue their excellent job. “The establishment of this agency serves as another evidence of our country’s continued commitment to battling corruption. Given the numerous, established harms that corruption causes to economic growth, this commitment is well-founded. In light of this, he said, “It is obvious that corruption has to be reduced to the barest minimum within the State, given the administration’s goal to make Enugu one of the top three states in Nigeria in terms of GDP and achieve a zero percent rate in the poverty headcount.” Read Also: Kano Guber: There is no Plan to Compromise Supreme Court Judgement -APC To restore the country’s reputation, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede urged his colleagues to step up and make use of all the resources and facilities available to them in the fight against corruption. “I want to reassure His Excellency, as well as the people of Enugu State and the South East area, that scammers are not welcome anywhere in the zone with this facility. “Much is expected of him to whom much is given. For the South East to experience the full impact of the EFCC on our development, I demand that every employee have a double commitment to the Commission’s duty,” he said.
