Education turns into a nightmare as Energy Crisis disrupts academic activities

Education and energy crisis  Education is the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university. On the 10th of January, the transformer of Aluu broke down again, contributing to the energy crisis that has disrupted the academic activities and turned the educational pursuit of the students of the Federal University of Port Harcourt into a nightmare. Students of the prestigious University of Port Harcourt are crying out to the government to intervene as the poor energy Crisis has also forced them to stand in queues in public places to fetch bathing water before going to class every morning. What is effective learning without the aid of constant water and power supply if not misery? Students lament. Ikeh Chidera, Public Administration student in Uniport said that this energy crisis started many years ago when he started living in Port Harcourt. The poor power supply has affected everybody including the staff and students living in Aluu. Aluu is a community situated in Rivers State, Nigeria, near the building city of Port Harcourt. It is primarily a residential area and is known for its proximity to the University of Port Harcourt, making it a popular location for students and University staff. Impact of Energy Crisis on Student’s Education Currently, only 45% of Nigeria’s population is connected to the energy grid whilst power supply difficulties are experienced around 85% of the time and almost nonexistent in certain regions. According to a study published on “IREsearchNG,” titled “Epileptic Power Supply and Its Impact on the Academic Performance of University Students,” poor electricity supply in Nigeria significantly impacts students’ academic achievements, as the unreliable power supply hinders learning activities like research and teaching within educational institutions, leading to reduced productivity and affecting overall academic performance Ikeri Loveth, a 200-level student from the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies, expressed her frustration about the poor power supply. “The light is not steady. NEPA PHCN brings the light once in a blue moon coupled with the fact that some compounds don’t have light due to inferior wires.” According to her, the poor power supply in Aluu, in conjunction with the high inflation rate in Nigeria, has crippled their means of survival. Due to power outages, students no longer read, as many find it convenient to read at night. Favor George, a 200-level student in Uniport and resident of Aluu, affirmed what Miss Ikeri Loveth said about their light not being steady. According to her, Aluu is overpopulated and is more than the power of the transformer which could be the cause of the power outage. She added that the poor power supply has forced many to miss lectures and skip important assignments and research as poor power supply has led to dead batteries of students’ phones and gadgets.   Solution Based on the interviews with Uniport students who are residents of Aluu, there are a few things they think can be done to ease the burden the poor power supply has placed on students. Governments at Local, State, and Federal levels should look into the wires used in connecting these lights. The unproportional sharing of light proved without a doubt that the wires used for Aluu NEPA are inferior. The government should use its capacity to provide an extra transformer for Aluu light. The transformer’s constant explosion proves that it is overloaded. The Federal University of Port Harcourt has constant light and is thanks to the fact that they ON generator when the power supply goes off. Government, NGOs, and individuals should donate big generators to compounds occupied by students. By doing so, the light problem will be half solved. Master Academic Excellence in University: 9 Things You Must Do to Excel

Academic Excellence in University

Looking for ways to excel or get better grades in the University? Search no further; read this article now, and you’ll learn how to excel in the University.

Achieving academic excellence is a significant accomplishment, and it is entirely attainable. Often, students entering university are filled with enthusiasm, but along the way, they may become discouraged and doubt the possibility of success. However, as long as you commit to your goals and maintain diligence, success is within reach. Remember, failure doesn’t have companions.

1. Write Down Your Goals and Vision

Habakkuk 2:2-3 states, “Then the Lord replied: ‘Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.’”

Before you write your goals, take some time to reflect on what you want to achieve academically. Your goals should be realistic and attainable, though they can be challenging as long as you believe you can achieve them.

2. Shun negativity

Words are like seeds that grow in our minds. If you allow negative comments from others to affect you, it can have a detrimental impact on your mindset. For example, Tyla started university with a senior colleague telling her that getting an A in their department was impossible, and she internalized that belief. As a result, she aimed only for a C in her studies, which reflected in her poor results during her first year.

After realizing the impact of those negative words, she changed her mindset, began believing in herself, and ultimately achieved her best results in her subsequent years in school. Proverbs 14:7 reminds us to “Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.”

3. Surround Yourself with Good Friends

Build a supportive community of friends who motivate and encourage you in your studies. Don’t isolate yourself in university; instead, connect with friends who will help you become the best version of yourself academically. Seek friends who will be honest with you and uphold positive values. While conflicts may arise, that’s a natural part of life. Cherish the gift of good friendship.

1 Corinthians 15:33 warns us, “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.”

4. Be Diligent

There is no shortcut to academic excellence; hard work is essential. Many students enter university and become distracted by extracurricular activities, neglecting their studies. To excel, you must be prepared to invest time, attend classes regularly, complete assignments, and study diligently. Create a personal study timetable that allows you to read both when it is convenient and inconvenient.

Don’t waste time on social media, and don’t wait for your university to issue the exam timetable before you start studying. Effective note-taking during lectures and actively asking questions are key to understanding course material.

As 2 Timothy 2:15 advises, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

5. Cultivate Discipline

The Role Of Acceptance In National Development

The Role Of Acceptance In National Development

Development is vital for any nation’s growth, and the most important people who have the greatest role in a nation’s development are the youths. Youths become dynamic in their actions and play distinct roles in the growth and development of any nation. They must possess the ability to make choices that align with the pursuit of educational goals and develop life skills, which are paramount for national and local leadership positions.   Indeed, youths are like the backbone of institutions and have the propensity and strength to change the dynamic for a new paradigm shift in society. Youths are the nation’s strength; their individual characteristics, energy, and capabilities support the body politic. They also form a sensitive age group that harbours dreams for necessary social changes. The development of Nations is fully dependent on the abilities of the youths. This power of the youths needs to be positively utilized across all sectors like health, education, technology, business, trade, banking, transportation, etc. and integrated with moral value education to spread love, peace and welfare throughout the nation. Ignoring youths’ maximum commitment and engagement in national development today will have dire consequences. To better understand how to move the youth’s future towards national growth and development, there must be a careful examination of the rationale for expanding the youth’s frontier for active participation in national development. If youths are greatly involved in national development, it clearly shows that their potential as change agents in mostly civil society is being highly recognized. Youths have a greater space in national development that they must consciously occupy, for national development does not only involve the implementation of political and economic policies and action programs that will improve the lives of the ordinary citizenry, but also must recognize the values and other aspects of the state that would act as a national catalyst to unite the people. Having an open mind of how we intend to contribute to the economic growth and development of the state is something that has been thought of overtime even before a popular administration took over. Our education is one of the important factors discussed by the old and young folks in our society. We have seen that education is a way to bring youths to the national theater. The primary role of education is positioning and providing youths with access to effective engagement in national development, which is also a way of incorporating them in the decision-making process of the nation’s government and nation-building activities where they are welcomed, with accurate and comprehensive information will empower them to make healthy decisions. However, the current prevailing circumstances in our country have extenuated the potential of youths as agents of social change and future leaders. We have understood that these problems range from economic, social and cultural activities. The sensitivity of the youths has been greatly challenged due to their entrapment into the treacherous circle of unemployment, poverty and illiteracy. Those who studied sociology referred to this as “attitude of fatalism, resignation and acceptance of the situation.” The persistence of these social problems has resulted in an environment where youths are now cheaply available for manipulation by self-seeking politicians who engage them to satisfy their wants, such as voter intimidation, unnecessary protest, election vandalism etc. Poverty, illiteracy, sexism and unemployment are interrelated circumstances that generate human needs and, therefore, constitute a state of deprivation. As the youth continue to remain in this state, there a pent-up emotions and untapped energies. They provide cheap labour to execute the design of political gladiators and ethnic champions. There is an urgent need to look into these situations and signal society to reconsider its decision on the participation of youths in nation-building. Youths are critical thinkers in society. They are the firebrand tools that paddle the wheel of a Nation to its great path of development. Youths must be highly engaged and incorporated into entire national development as a whole. We are aware that the essence of youth participation in national development is to promote ownership and sustainability of change of interventions, strengthen their abilities to meet their own subsistence needs and wants, prevent and reduce vulnerabilities to an economic, political and socially unstable environment, also to reduce illegal activities such as kidnapping, theft, online scam, oil vandalism etc. to help gain entry into target communities and build up trust and social capital.
